The Ackie Monitor Lizard ( Varanus acanthurus ) is a medium-sized lizard native to the semi-arid regions of northern Australia. It typically measures between 40 and 60 cm, with a long, spiny tail. Its coloration varies from beige to light brown, often marked with dark spots, which allows it to camouflage itself in its natural environment. This monitor lizard is diurnal, active, and omnivorous, feeding on insects, small vertebrates, fruit, and vegetation. It is also an excellent climber and prefers habitats with both horizontal and vertical areas. In captivity, it requires a spacious, dry, and warm terrarium, with a temperature ranging between 30 and 40°C during the day.
